The crew leaves the Raja Ampat Dive Lodge and sets sail west for more diving! Our engine overheats and we pull Delos with our dinghy to avoid hitting a reef. We find a sweet beach, chill for a few days, bump into a research vessel, and do some world class diving in the "Bullseye" of the Coral Triangle at Fam and Penemu Islands in Raja Ampat!
Hello, Brian! Greetings from Brazil! My name is Ricardo and I live in Ubatuba coast of São Paulo - Brazil. When you come to visit our country? hugs
ReplyDeleteHey Ricardo! If all goes well we should be there early to mid 2016! We'll spend 2015 crossing the Indian Ocean, then it will be across the Atlantic to Brazil :) Really looking forward to it! I hope we have a chance to cross paths.

Ahoy Brian,
ReplyDeleteI just watched Bullseye Of The Coral Triangle. Awesome. You guys are really getting this video thing down. The underwater shoots were soooo coooool. It was like looking at an aquarium on my computer monitor. The clarity was unbelievable.
So, the reason for this post is to ask a highly technical nautical question. As Brady was coming up the companionway, I noticed you have Fusion speakers. They look like model MS-FR402 4” Round speakers. Yes, I have been shopping around for a while – very sad.
The cockpit speakers on Cream Puff finally went kaput and I am in need of replacements. I found a great pair of square speakers that fit into the original cut outs called DC Golds but, the magnets were too powerful and threw off the compass by 90 degrees ~ oops! They sounded great but we might sail to Africa if trying to go north to Maine. They are now on eBay.
I am back to looking again. How do the Fusions work for you? Is the sound acceptable? But most importantly, does the port-side speaker magnet interfere with the barnacle compass at the helm?
With warm wishes,
Mark

Hey Mark! You have a sharp eye! We bought those in Australia when the other ones crapped out. So far the sound is good and they have been weather resistant. We've had them for about 18 months now and still sound great. You know, we didn't notice any change in the compass when we installed them. But, I'm wondering if the compass was initially calibrated with the stock speakers installed on the boat. So maybe the effect has already been accounted for? I don't really know that much about compass calibration but I know the previous owner of Delos had it done and I found the calibration card in the boat docs.
DeleteFair Winds, and hope you find a sweet pair of speakers!

Karin did a great job with the video! Those lagoons are unbelievable, they look like they'd be amazing to paddle board around. Hope you got your coolant leak under control. Cheers! -Bill
ReplyDeleteI've enjoyed following you guys but heard something a bit disturbing on this video. You met people on a research vessel and was glad to be hanging around "white people". Should I take this to imply that you're more comfortable around "white peoples?" If that's so why not sail in those areas where there are plenty of "white people." Of course you wouldn't get the amazing diving, cultural diversity, amazing weather nor the amazing "other than white peoples" experiences you're enjoying. However, I know the feeling of being "the minority" and longing for the sight of "my kind". The comment was just a bit off and quite a surprise coming from Delos crew.
ReplyDeleteHey Helen- First off thanks so much for watching our videos! They are an absolute blast to put together and sharing them with others has been such a cool experience. My favorite thing about sailing is the ocean treats everyone the same. It doesn't matter if you're a beginner, or experienced sailor, big or little, what type of boat you have, your race, country, or anything else. You are treated the same by the ocean and weather and because of that when we're out here we lose all the normal context that has been attached to things over time. We often spend extended periods of time with the locals and natives, often months on end. It doesn't matter who you are or where your from, if we meet up with you we're very excited to see people. Any people! I would ask you to keep this in mind, and know that the thought anything in this video could be considered derogatory to any other people really surprised us. Fair winds! Brian SV Delos
