Delos Needs Crew!

Drawing Sold Out!!!!

Become part of the Delos Crew for 10 days!  If you’re wondering what it’s like to cruise around the world this is your chance.  You’ll be part of the experience and have the adventure of a lifetime!

How do I get on board?  Well, in Delos fashion we’re going to do a random drawing and fund the trip with donations. Donate $50 to the voyage and you enter the drawing to have the chance to become Delos crew. The winner also gets to bring a friend!  You get to choose the leg and date that suits you and your buddy best.  You cover your flights, and we cover everything else!  Food drinks, cozy bunks, and even diving is all included!

We only need 100 people to contribute before we do the drawing, so there will only be 100 names in the pot. Even if you don’t win the drawing, you’re still helping someone else to sail.  That’s what we love so much about the idea!

Be sure to check out our terms and conditions below before signing up!

Sold Out

sailing adventure

We’ll be sailing across the South China Sea from Malaysian Borneo to Singapore, then working our way through the Malacca straights and into Thailand. The winner will pick the leg and dates that work best for them!

Leg 1 (550 NM Dec 8th - Dec 17th) - Kudat to Kuching

We’ll leave the most northern tip of Borneo and sail south. The monsoon winds at this time of year should be at our back and we expect a real sweet sail! Our first stop will be the tiny, oil rich nation of Brunei. We’ll fill up the tanks, grab some provisions, and continue south towards Kuching.

Leg 2 (400 NM Dec 19th - Dec 28th) - Kuching to Johor Bahru\Singapore

We’ll leave Borneo behind and set sail due West towards the Malaysian Mainland. As we work our way across the South China Sea we’ll explore some of the more remote islands to break up our passage. Our destination will be Johor Bahru, with an opportunity to explore Singapore as well.

Leg 3 (420 NM Dec 30th - Jan 8th) - Johor Bahru to Lankawi

We’ll take a turn north and start working our way through the Malacca Straits- one of the busiest straits in the entire world. We’ll arrive into Lankawi, one of the most popular sailing destinations on Malaysia’s west coast.

Leg 4 (150NM Jan 10th - Jan 19th) - Lankawi to Phuket

This shortest leg will provide plenty of time to do day hops and explore the islands as we leave Malaysian waters and enter into Thailand!

Leg 5 (TBD- Jan 21st – Jan 30th) – Chillin’ in Thailand

No agenda, no plans. Just sailing around looking for fun adventures in Thai waters :)

FAQ’s:

Do I need any sailing or cruising experience?

Nope :) Just a passion for adventure and the willingness to learn is all that’s required.

Where will Delos be sailing when I join?

That really depends on when you choose to come out. There are many different legs for the voyage and many different possibilities. Once you choose what time works best we will know more. But, it will be in SE Asia and it will be awesome!

Where would I fly into and out of?

Delos will be in SE Asia so there are lot’s of cheap places to fly into, depending on when you join us. Possible ports are Kota Kinabulu (Malaysia), Singapore, Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia), Lankawi (Malaysia), and Phuket (Thailand), plus many, many more. Domestic flights are super cheap in Asia, so as long as you can get close it won’t be a problem to pick up a domestic flight to where Delos is.

Can I contribute more than once?

Yes, you can if you like. We will enter your name separately for each contribution.

If I win can I give my spot to someone else?

Yes, of course you can!

Do I have to use PayPal to contribute?

PayPal is easiest for us, but if you absolutely don’t want to let us know and we can provide bank details for direct bank transfer.

More Questions?

Please leave a comment on this post and we’ll get back to you!

    1. Hey Melvin, I'm so sorry that PayPal didn't let you submit your donation. That's really, really crappy :( The spots sold out a lot quicker than we thought, to unfortunately this chance is over but if all goes well we may do it again at some point. Thanks so much for reading the blog!

So where in Malaysia do you live?

  2. I have a question:
There are four legs, will all four legs be drawn from the 100 couples who deposit their $50.00 or will there be four separate drawings for each leg?
By the way..........awesome concept......will the couples get a video to keep of their voyage?

    1. Hey Corvus! We're just doing one drawing, then the winner can choose the dates and leg that suites them the best. If the concept works out we'll probably do it again!

And of course there will be a video :)

  4. I've been following Delos for a while now. Keep up the good work! Next time you do this you may wish to add more space between "needs" and "crew" or put them on separate lines. A quick morning precaf parse yielded a much different, somewhat x-rated, message. Then I realized you must be having problems with the propeller. Then I had my coffee...

  5. I've been following Delos for a couple of weeks, and enjoy your videos and the blog.. I even spent the time to read your entire blog starting back in 2009. In the past when I have found a cruising blog I enjoyed by the time I found it they generally have already completed their cruise and have already sold the boat. It was nice to find one that was still in progress. You must also have a very loyal following, as I received the e-mail about the raffle at 10pm last night, and by the time I checked my e-mails at 7am the next day, you were already sold out. Keep the great blogs and videos coming

    1. Hey Ken! I know what you mean. I read ALOT of blogs about cruising before setting out and by far the majority of them had finished by the time I got caught up. I guess the nice thing about that is there's lot's of catch-up reading you can do at a faster than normal pace..... I'm happy to say that we have barely made it about 1/2 way so far so we should be at it for a bit longer :) Thanks so much for reading and watching, we really appreciate it!

  8. Great idea guys! I didn't expect the cap on entries or the tight turnaround on the drawing. Procrastination strikes again!

I can't wait to enter next time. Have fun Michael!

  9. If I had the time and money, I would've bought all 100 entries. I think this kind of adventure would have been well worth it! You guys really know how to have a good time!

  10. Hi guys. I've read the different issues and I find many answers to my questions. I wish't to enter the draw , but it was to late. I have other questions. First, are you going to do an another draw and wen. Second, as my wife is a teacher and me a school bus driver , we don't work in summer. Do you take crews between 1 July and late August . And third , do you think to get a bigger sailboat to accommodate more people, but not too much of corse. Like i told you récently, some morning you ake up at 55 and you ask your self, watt would have bean my live if only i've trided. We would be very trill to meet you guys. We travel once a year to places like Mexico, Cuba, Républicain Dominicaine, and once, Moroco, but notting as trilling as watt you do guys. We can contribute for more than the $50 dollars fund just to live the same freedom that you fill every say, locky you are. I'm very sorry for m'i por english riding. I'm from Québec so normaly my french is beter, but dont worry i speak beder english than that, i think? Tank's

    1. Hey Michel! Thanks for the comment and thanks for following the adventures, we appreciate it! I really wish we could help you out right now but unfortunately, we're a very full boat at the moment. We've got 7 people on board this season all the way through until we reach South Africa at the the end of this year! Gonna be a huge journey. We're not sure when and where we will do another crew drawing. But if and when we do, we will post it on the Facebook page (www.facebook.com/svdelos) and also on here. Thanks for the continuing the support and stay warm in Quebec! Cheers and fair winds, Josje ~ SV Delos
